The location marks the place where the idea was born a year ago to make the first feature film about the life of the world’s first and arguably biggest movie star. Pacino, daughter of actor Al, and DeLia, who will also direct the movie, are hosting a party at the Lightbox Thursday, on the film fest’s opening night. Producers Julie Pacino and Jennifer DeLia say they have TIFF Bell Lightbox to thank for much of it. A pair of New York filmmakers is hoping for a Hollywood North ending for The First, their upcoming drama about Mary Pickford, the Canadian-born, silent-screen actress dubbed “America’s Sweetheart” who became the most powerful woman in the male-dominated movie world.
